Navigating the Quicken Dashboard: A Central Hub for Your Financial Overview

The Quicken Dashboard serves as the nerve center of Quicken Classic, providing a comprehensive overview of your financial health at a glance. Designed to offer a detailed snapshot of various financial activities, the dashboard allows for a personalized and interactive experience. Here’s how you can make the most of the Quicken Dashboard through its array of insightful cards:

Dashboard Cards Explained

Spending by Category

  • Overview: Identify your major spending areas with the Spending by Category card, which defaults to the Quarter to Date view. Other time frames are also available for a tailored analysis.
  • Interaction: Hover over or click on a category for detailed spending insights or to view associated transactions.

Recent Transactions

  • Functionality: This card presents transactions from the past seven days, with the option to extend this timeframe. Transactions can be scrolled through for quick access.
  • Utility: Clicking a transaction redirects you to its detailed entry in your register, or to loan details as applicable.

Uncategorized Transactions

  • Purpose: A crucial tool for financial organization, this card allows you to categorize transactions directly.
  • Management: Recently categorized transactions are listed for review and adjustment, with the option to hide this feature for a streamlined view.

Top Spending Payees

  • Insights: Discover which payees are receiving the bulk of your expenditures over selected time periods.
  • Details: Clicking a payee reveals a comprehensive spending report, offering deeper spending analysis.

Income & Expense

  • Visualization: This card graphs your income against expenses over chosen intervals, showcasing net income at the top and total figures at the bottom.
  • Reports: Interactive elements let you generate detailed Income & Expense reports or focus on total income or expenses.

Net Worth

  • Snapshot: Assets, liabilities, and net worth are graphically displayed over your selected timeframe, highlighting your financial progress.
  • Accuracy: Ensure an up-to-date net worth by including all accounts and liabilities in your Quicken profile.

Bills & Income

  • Forecasting: Get ahead of your finances with a clear view of upcoming bills and income, enhancing cash flow management and planning.

Customizing Your Dashboard

Personalization Options

Customization

Tailor each card to your preference by adjusting settings like the title, date range, and color through the customization menu. Click the three dot 

menu and select Customize to make changes to your card..

Organization

Rearrange cards by dragging them to your desired order, ensuring the most relevant information is front and center.

Visibility

Control the clutter by toggling the visibility of cards, allowing you to focus on the information most important to you. If you want to hide a card, or return a card you had previously hidden, click the four square icon  in the top right corner of the dashboard. You can then toggle any card to hide or show that card. The default is to show all cards.

Dashboard Cards

Spending by Category

The Spending by Category card shows what categories are generating your highest expenses. The default view is for the Quarter to Date, but you can choose other time periods as well. You can hover your pointer over any category to see more information about your spending in that category. You can click a category to see the transactions associated with that category.


Recent Transactions

The Recent Transactions card shows you what transactions you've made in the last seven days. You can increase the amount of days to suit your needs. If you have many transactions, you can scroll through them on the card. You can click a transaction to see that transaction in your register. In the case of loans, Quicken will take you to the loan information page.


Uncategorized Transactions

The Uncategorized Transactions card is an excellent resource that you can use to assign categories to your transactions. You can click any transaction to select a category for that transaction. Once categorized, you can still see the transaction on the card under the heading Recently Categorized Transactions. This allows you to make changes in case the category chosen needs adjustment. The Recently Categorized Transactions will disappear whenever you leave the Dashboard. You can turn Recently Categorized Transactions on or off using the edit iconat the top right of the card.

 

Top Spending Payees

The Top Spending Payees card shows you the payees that have received the most of your money for the time period. You can adjust the date range to get a better idea of your spending over time. Click a payee to see a spending report for that payee.

 


Income & Expense

The Income & Expense card shows you a graph of the amount of income and the amount of expense for a time period, breaking it up into segments such as years or months. Above the graph you can see your Net Income for that period. At the bottom of the card you can see your Total Income and Total Expense. You can hover over any graph entry to see Income, Expense, and Net Income for that segment. You can click on the graph to generate an Income & Expense report for the overall time period. You can also click Total Income or Total Expense to generate a report.


Net Worth

The Income & Expense card shows you a graph of your Assets (green), Liabilities (red), and Net Worth (gray). You can select time ranges from the Last 3 Months or Quarter to Date to the Last 10 Years. The card also displays your Net Worth (Today).

Hover over any part of the timeline to get a view of your net worth on that date.

Remember that the best way to get an accurate Net Worth is to add all your accounts, including any liabilities.

 



Bills & Income

The Bills & Income Card offers a concise overview of your upcoming financial obligations and anticipated funds. This feature assists you in managing your finances proactively by providing timely reminders. You can view a summary of upcoming bills and income for a set period, giving you a clear insight into your cash flow.

 

Modifying Cards on your Dashboard

You can change your cards to make them more useful to you.

Customize

 Options may vary from card to card but generally include the Card Title, Date Range, and Card Color.

Move Cards

You can drag and drop cards to put them in the order you prefer. Simply click and hold on the top bar of a card you want to move, and drag it to its new position.

Hide or Show Cards

If you want to hide a card, or return a card you had previously hidden, click the four square icon in the top right corner of the dashboard. You can then toggle any card to hide or show that card. The default is to show all cards.
