What is an investment transaction list?

An investment transaction list is essentially a register, much like the register you use for your spending accounts, except that it tracks investment transactions. 

Each Quicken investment account has a transaction list. You use it in much the same way as you use the register for your checking or credit card accounts. You can view the transactions made in your investment accounts, including shares bought, shares sold, dividends, reinvestments, stock splits, and more.

How do I update my investment transactions?

For connected accounts, your transactions are it is updated automatically when you perform a One Step Update. For offline/manual accounts you must enter each transaction yourself. To do this, click the Enter Transactions button at the top of your transactions list. 

What can I do in the investment transaction list?

In the investment transaction list, you can enter new transactions manually or download them directly from your broker or participating financial institution

You can also edit transactions, schedule recurring transactions,  and customize your transactions list

What are the different types of transactions?

Buy - Shares Bought
Key: Alt+G
Enter the purchase shares of a security (subtract the cost from my cash balance).

Sell - Shares Sold
Key: Alt+R

Enter the sale of shares of a security (add the proceeds to my cash balance).

Div - Stock dividend (non-cash)
Key: Alt+K

Enter the receipt of a stock dividend. This is a noncash dividend, usually nontaxable.
Reinvest - Income Reinvested
Key: Alt+V
Enter the reinvestment of income. Use for reinvested interest, dividends, or capital gains distributions.
Inc - Income (Div, int, etc.)
Key: Alt+I
Enter the receipt of cash income (interest, dividends, or capital gains distributions) that you did not reinvest.
Add - Shares Added
Key: Alt+Z
Enter the addition of shares of a security to this account without affecting the cash balance.
Remove - Shares Removed
Key: Alt+X
Record the removal of shares of a security from this account without affecting the cash balance.
Adjust Share BalanceEnter the total number of shares you own on this date. Quicken will add a Placeholder Entry to make your quicken holdings agree with the number you enter.

Stock Split

Enter a stock split or a reverse stock split.
Return of CapitalEnter the return of capital (as from a unit trust or mortgage-backed security).
Miscellaneous expense

Enter a miscellaneous expense (such as a broker's fee or a mutual fund management fee).

Margin Interest ExpenseEnter the interest expense for a security you bought on margin.
Bonds BoughtRecord the purchase of bonds.
Bonds SoldRecord the sale of bonds.
Grant Employee Stock OptionsEnter an employee stock option grant in Quicken. Quicken creates a special "option" security and tracks your vesting schedule.
Exercise Employee Stock OptionsEnter the exercise of employee stock options that you have already set up in Quicken.
Reprice Employee stock OptionsEnter information for a stock option grant (already set up in Quicken) that your employer reprices.
Bought ESPP SharesEnter shares of your employer's stock that you bought through a discounted employee purchase plan.
Sold ESPP SharesEnter the sale of your employer's stock previously bought through a discounted employee purchase plan.
Short SaleEnter a short sell.
Cover Short SaleEnter the buy to cover a short sale.
Corporate Name ChangeEnter a corporate name change for a security you track in Quicken.
Corporate Securities Spin-OffEnter updated information when a security you track spins off (nontaxable) part of its business and you receive shares of the new company.
Corporate Acquisition (stock for stock)Enter updated information for a security you track that has been purchased by another corporation. 
Mutual Fund ConversionEnter information for a mutual fund that is being replaced by another mutual fund.
Cash Transferred into AccountEnter the transfer of cash into this account.
Cash Transferred Out of AccountEnter the transfer of cash out of this account.
Shares Transferred Between AccountsEnter the transfer of shares from one Quicken investment account to another.
Reminder TransactionCreate a reminder for yourself (will appear with your investment alerts in Quicken and on Quicken.com)
Cash Transactions
Write CheckRecord a check.
DepositEnter a deposit into this account.
WithdrawEnter a withdrawal from this account.
Online PaymentEnter a payment made from this account. You must use an account that is enabled for online payments.
Other Cash TransactionEnter a payment, deposit, online payment, or check to print from this investment account's cash balance.
